WHY ONE -TO -ONE AND WHAT DO I MEAN BY COACHING AS OPPOSED TO TUTORING ?
Coaching methods work in drawing and painting in one-to one situations , principly because we draw and paint alone even when in the company of others. Like an individual athlete we step up to the plate on our own .
We don’t make art as a team, we are alone with the challenge.
The coaching methods I employ are designed to empower you with knowledge and to self belief.They are simple and directly related to your own project .
Tutoring methods ,whether individually or in a group situation is usual when there is some syllabus or standard that has been set by some one or some body other than the student. In a group each “student†gets a little of the tutors time and attention. This can make learning a very slow process and is not suitable if you have lots of questions or difficult questions to ask as the tutors time is limited and must be shared. Even one to one tutoring sessions at an art college have at thier heart the standards and outcomes required by an accreditation board.
There is of course a lot that can be learned over a long period of time in adult education classes and they have their benefits socially . You might make friends there for example. You may want to attend one of these classes but lack the confidence or about your ability prevents uou from joining If so then my one to-one option is definitely for you as a preparation for going where your progress may be painfully slow and your questions remain unanswered .

When I coach one to one it is in order to enable the client to achieve his or her own goals and standards of performance.
This is most usually associated with sport and in more recent times "life-coaching"
I coach for artistic/creative performance in partnership with the client who wants to enrich and expand his or her life by drawing and or painting ,by being or becoming ,an artist.
